This piece was inspired by a time I had recently where everything felt stuck. I was desperately casting about looking for light at the end of the tunnel. And as is often (always) the way, nature had the answer. I was sitting on a headland, starting gloomily at the stormy sky, when a beam of light broke through the cloud, creating a pool of light on the sea below. That golden, buttery glow, so extraordinarily bright, filled me with wonder and hope.

I returned home, and for weeks I smoothed layer after layer of oil paint onto canvas to get the effect that I wanted: and with each layer I felt like I was releasing and moving forwards. By the time I applied the final glaze, I felt like a different person.

I love this painting – filled with the richness and depth of this evocative scene, flavoured with transformation; all the while that dazzling light drawing you in. To me, it represents resilience, magic, hope and wonder. That light at the end of the tunnel.

I called it ‘The Light Reaches Out to You’.

It sold within minutes of me releasing it.

Painted in acrylics and oils, this small painting on canvas captures a dramatic coastal scene with gathering storm clouds and an inviting burst of light.  

With rich, deep darks, soft magentas, buttery yellow and blue-greys this colour palette is designed to inspire hope and a remembrance that storms pass, and there is always warmth and light on the other side.
