Sir Wally was an expert dog-handler and polar explorer, selecting huskies from West Greenland and training them for expeditions in Antarctica. Sir Wally also used teams of dogs in his British Trans-Arctic Expedition: the first and only crossing of the Arctic Ocean across its longest axis, via the North Pole and the Pole of Inaccessibility.
