The Joy of Packaging Artwork
Of all the subject lines for a blog 'the joy of packaging artwork' could possibly be one of the least enticing, but this part of connecting with my art and my buyers is something I wouldn't miss for the world.
A few months ago a dear friend bought a painting (it was barely dry when she phoned me saying I mustn't sell it to anyone but her). She was away having some adventures at the time, so she asked me to keep the painting safe until her return. Now in her new home, she is ready to receive it.
First, of course, there was the happy dance when I sold the painting. But oh the joy I experienced when parcelling up this painting!
It was like wrapping up the most exquisite gift. Maybe it is because I have such a deep relationship with the painting - it emerged through hours and hours of thought and trial and error, of play, experimentation (and sometimes tears of frustration and, later, celebration). The marks, the brushstrokes, the sweep of a palette knife that canvas are all a part of me, brought into existence as I lived a creative experience. As a result, this painting has it's own energy and essence.

To me, each artwork has a living presence, no matter a sketch or a full-blown oil painting.
That might sound a bit 'out there', but if you love art, then you'll know. You'll recognise that feeling when you stand, transfixed, in a museum or gallery, when time seems to pause for a moment because you're transfixed, you're in relation with the creation in front of you, and the artist who created it. It's a pretty magical feeling.
So, last night, as I smoothed and wrapped tissue paper around the painting; as I created each frame corner protector myself; as I wrote the card of thanks and then created a snug box for it all, I felt really blessed. I was in the zone of pure delight and appreciation because this unique piece of art 'The Light Reaches Out to You' is heading to its forever home.
This, my friends, is what happens when you buy an original artwork from a living, breathing artist.
